DAY 6: Prep for the week

So the weekend has come to an end and it's time to start the work week.  How many of you have already started prepping your food for the week?  Good on you if that's the case.  Prepping your food for the entire week, may take some time to do....but it is well worth it and makes it that much easier to eat cleaner, more balanced meals during the week.  I personally found it difficult to come home after work and the gym and cook a full on meal.  I was starving at that point and just wanted to eat whatever I could get my hands on!  So I decided that Sunday's would be the best time to put a menu together, go shopping and then cook up breakfast, lunch and dinner for the entire week.  That seriously changed my life in itself!  Right now my menu is pretty simple.  I cook egg muffins for breakfast, 3 chx breasts for my lunch salads and then meatloaf or a meatza for dinner which I either have with mashed cauliflower, brussel sprouts or some steamed veggies.

What do you all do?  Let's share some ideas.

  1. I've never seen a meatza before!! thats really awesome! Are we supposed to change our diet on our rest days or stay the same?

  2. Challenge eating out both days but stayed on pretty well. That bread basket looked soooo good but had a slice of apple instead and had chef salad while a pile of delicious old bay chips covered in cheese and bacon in front of me. Ate some bacon and left the rest. Prepared poorly since I will be on the road three days this week. This will be a BIG challenge.

  4. I love the meatzza- It makes plenty of lunches for the week! Has anoyone else noticed that this challenge makes them drink tons of water?! I am drinking like 4 or 5 liters in a day... I quit counting my oz of water once I reach 72, but I do that by midday usually!

  6. I usually cook for about 4 days in advance or so. I cook some on my rest days so I can have food on the weekends.

I make it really easy for myself. It usually takes 1-2 hours of cook time on Sunday with cleanup afterwards.

    1. Saturday = Get groceries before everyone else. ;-)
    2. Sunday Cook

What I cook on sunday is somewhere around the following.
    breakfast:
    1. 8 Chicken Sausages (TJ)
    2. Whole package of Bacon

    Lunch:
7-8 Chicken Breasts about 7-8 oz each
    Brussel Sprouts

    Snacks:
    dozen Hardboiled eggs

    Dinner (one of the following)
    Meatloaf/spahgetti squash/meatza/stuffed mushrooms/Cabbage Rolls

I don't do anything complicated - It has to be very straightforward for me to want to cook it. And it has to have very few ingredients. I don't measure exact spice amounts.

  7. I prepped this past Saturday and honestly I believe the only way I'm keeping up is being prepared. It's great though knowing I have a ton of food in the fridge to grab and go. Planning makes for success!

  8. Definitely been prepping on the weekends. Hard boiled a dozen eggs, bake/grill 4 chicken breasts to throw in salads or have as an entree, and to keep it easy I eat a lot of leftovers. A nice option if you don't mind having the same thing two days in a row.

I really like how this challenge has opened up news things that I would have never tried before like MEATZA! Awesome recipe. Can't wait to make it for me husband when he gets back in two weeks. He was definitely jealous that he wasn't home after I described it to him!

I also tried zucchini pancakes over the weekend. Very tasty and filling. I'll post the recipe on the recipe board if anyone wants it.

  9. I make scrambled eggs with Village Butcher Sausage and spinach in coconut oil for the week and divide it into containers to grab and run. Works just as well as the muffins, I just couldn't handle the texture of the muffins....odd I know.

Also, if you find something that can be made in a crockpot, that can be left cooking while you are out enjoying the day.

Fish and steak cook pretty fast, so I try to keep those for dinner during the week. I know fresh broccoli is best, the the frozen steam fresh broccoli bags have been a real life saver for months and months now.
